Web space is available for all faculty
at Colgate on a few different web servers:
http://classes.colgate.edu and
http://people.colgate.edu. For students, it is located at http://people.colgate.edu.
To set up space on one of these servers for your use, apply using
the form found at
http://www.colgate.edu/siteinfo/application.asp
Once you have established a space on a
Colgate web server, you can begin to create your web site.

From the Adobe GoLive File menu,
select New Site>Blank.

In the box where it says "New Site",
type a name for your new site.

If
you plan to have connections to several web servers, use descriptive
names that relate to the server you will be connection to.

Navigate in the scroll box and
open the folder that you want to place your site folder into.
|
|

Make sure that there is a checkmark in the box next to "Create Folder"
|
|

Click the Save button. |

A new site window will appear on your monitor. Notice that GoLive created a home page for you- called
index.html.

Connect your new site to a Colgate Webserver:

Click on the double arrows in the lower right corner of the site window. This will open another window on the right of your original site window.

Click on the FTP tab at the top of this new window. |

Hold down the Ctrl key on the keyboard and click in the middle of the right window.
A menu will appear at your mouse pointer, select Settings and the following window will appear:

Input the information regarding the server name, the directory, your username and password. See picture above for correct format.

Check the checkbox next to Save to Save your password. |

Click the OK button. |

Connect to the Server. Hold down the
Ctrl key on the keyboard and click in the middle of the right window again. A menu will appear at your mouse
pointer, this time select Connect.
If a message appears about adding the password to the keychain, click "Don't Add".

You should see folders and files in your right window. This right window represents the actual folders and files on the web server and the folders and files in the left window represent the contents in your desktop or laptop computer. |
