Optimizing an Image for the Web

Step one:

When saving an image for use on the web, it is best to save it in either the 'jpg' or 'gif' file format.  Most importantly, the file size (in kilobytes) of an image intended for the web MUST be kept as small as possible!  Photoshop Elements "Save for Web" feature will guide you to make the best decision.

Step two:

Once your image is ready to be saved, select
File and then Save for Web.

Step three:

Making choices in the Settings Menu.  If your image has 8 colors or less, select GIF.  If your image has more that 8 colors, select JPEG

Step four:

Below each picture is a description of how the file will be saved and how long it will take to load over a modem connecting at a speed of 28.8 bps.

By adjusting the settings in the Settings Menu shown above, you can see how the image will look and a description of how long the file will take to load.

Step five:

When you are satisfied with the image, click OK and name the image.
