A flatbed scanner attached to your computer

Place the image or document that you want to scan (facedown)  onto the scanner’s glass surface.

Step two:

Open Adobe Acrobat. Start > Programs > Adobe > Adobe Acrobat 5.0

Step three:

From the File menu, choose Import>Scan

Step four:

A window will appear allowing you to select the scanner that is connected to your computer. Click the small triangle in the Device menu to select your scanner.
(If you do not see your scanner listed, call the helpline x7111.)

Step five:

For normal document scanning, leave the Format on "Single sided", and the Destination set to "New Document". Click the Scan button.

Step six:

Depending on how your scanner interacts with Acrobat will determine the settings window that will next appear on your screen. In the Scanner settings window, check the following settings:
Resolution. You can try either 300 dpi or 150 dpi. The higher the resolution, the larger the computer file. If 150 dpi gives you satisfactory results, it is preferable.
Scan Type. Flat Bed is the most common setting. This should only be changed if your scanner has a document feeder attached.
Image Mode. Select Black & White.  Grayscale might provide a better image of your page, but will greatly increase the size of your file.
Other settings can be left at their default settings.

The window shown below is an example of a Scan Settings window- your settings window may look different. Simply make sure that you have the three settings indicated above correctly entered.

Step Seven: You must select the specific area that you would like to scan by drawing a box around the area with your cursor. When the cursor looks like a plus sign (+), click on one corner of your image and drag the cursor to the opposite corner. A dotted selection border should be surrounding your image.

Step Eight: Scan the Image. Using the HP software, to complete the scan, either

"Return to…" ARROW

   Step Nine:

If your document has multiple sheets, position the next sheet onto the scanner and click the Next button. This process can be repeated as many times as necessary.

When the scanning is complete, the document will appear in an Adobe Acrobat window on your screen. From the File menu choose Save.
